Urhobo Youths Say “No Credible Candidate On DC-23 List,” Demand Experience In Government

Youths of the 32 clans of URHOBO land who make up the Central Senatorial district of Delta State have cried out that there are no credible persons on the list of Urhobo aspirants published by the DC-23 for consideration as Urhobo candidates for election as Governor of Delta State in 2023.

They have thus threatened to make a public disavowal of all the aspirants on the PDP list until more credible candidates who will be acceptable to majority of the people of Delta State are included and presented to the people.

When asked who such credible candidates should be, spokesman for one of the clans in the group, Solo Edemovie from one of the Agbon clans said: “it is not who the candidate we want should be but what qualities the candidate we want should have.”

He added: “The candidate we want should have a track record of loyal service and good performance in high public office. He must have good education, preferably up to post-graduate level. He must have record of good human management and implementation of policy”.

“Politics”, he said, “is not a profession. Politics does not offer anyone training in any useful skill, particularly in the management of human affairs. That list of candidates the DC23 are parading is full of politicians who have no skill in management of people and resources of the state. We want someone experienced in Government.”

Continuing, he said: “Urhobo must offer the best from our land to Delta State. We must provide popular and good leadership as the biggest ethnic group in the state to show example to others.”

He continued: “What the politicians are doing in the DC-23 is to look among the candidates and see who will be loyal to their interests and who will provide the biggest “ishegwari” to the selectors.”

“We will no longer stand for the disgrace that a former Urhobo Governor brought us. You people don’t know the damage Urhobo has suffered because of the shameful publicity brought by that Governor. We must avoid that shame at all cost this time,” he opined.
