The APC governorship primary elections which held on June 26, 2021, has been nullified by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the monitoring team for the election, it has been confirmed that the election that produced Andy Ubah as its winner is nonexistent as no elections held in any of the wards all around the state.

Recall that Dr. Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba, commonly known as Andy Uba, the Senator who represented Anambra South in the 7th and 8th Senates, was proclaimed the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Chairman of the Anambra State APC Primary Election Committee, made the announcement that Andy Uba received 230,201 votes out of 348,490 total votes cast.

However, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced on Wednesday that the APC governorship primary in Anambra state on June 26 was canceled.

The commission stated that none of the APC team members were assigned the task of conducting the primary in any of the state’s 326 electoral Wards.

Electoral personnel and materials were not available at voting centers for the APC governorship primary set for June 26, 2021 in Anambra state, according to the commission, until 5:30 p.m., when INEC monitors withdrew from the field. Up until 5:30 p.m., when the monitors were recalled, the commission’s monitors did not see accreditation, voting, counting of votes, collation, or pronouncement of results at the voting and collation centers.

Recall that 11 of the 14 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidates in Anambra stated the state’s governorship primary on June 26 was a sham.

Dr. George Muoghalu, the aspirants’ spokesperson, had a press conference on Saturday in Awka to explain the group’s position.

People came out in all 326 electoral Wards in the state, but Muoghalu claimed they were dissatisfied because no members of the APC team tasked with conducting the primary or officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were there.

Muoghalu, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and one of the candidates, stated anyone who claims there was a primary is lying, and he did not wish the APC luck in the November 6 election.

Both aspirants, Paul Orajiaka and Edozie Madu, backed Muoghalu’s viewpoint and cautioned that the age of one individual fabricating figures to claim victory is finished.

The aspirants, on the other hand, urged the party leadership to choose a new date for the Anambra primary to guarantee that the party meets the Electoral Act’s deadline.

Johnbosco Onunkwo, Ben Etiaba, Amobi Nwaokafor, Chidozie Nwankwo, Geoffo Onyjegbu, and Azuka Okwuosa were among the others that attended the occasion.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has requested that the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the governorship election in Anambra State, which was scheduled for Saturday, June 26, be rescheduled.

He explained that the change was necessary to allow party members from across the state to participate, as well as to provide committee members adequate room to resolve difficult problems made by aspirants.

According to a statement released by his media office in Alor, Idemili South, the minister, who is also the state party’s leader, informed the Chairman of the Anambra State Governorship Primary Committee and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, of his position.

“Your Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Chairman of the Anambra State Primary Committee, good day,’ the statement added, quoting Senator Ngige. At 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, June 26th, I’m in my hometown of Alor, which has two electoral wards, and there is no sign of a governorship primary election. My inquiries and investigations revealed that the narrative is the same in all 326 wards of the state’s 21 local government regions.

‘As a result, most members of the party have gone home after waiting since 8 a.m. I spoke with your member, Distinguished Senator Ken Nnamani, and I recommend that you contact the panel members and request that the exercise be rescheduled for Tuesday, June 29th, so that you can address some of the issues made by aspirants.’
