Bomadi Community Calls On FG, DTSG, NDDC To Come To Their Rescue As Erosion Washes Away Seawall
By Daniel Dafe
The people of Ogbein-ama Federated Community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State have called on the Federal Government, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Delta State Govt to come to their rescue as erosion washed away their community seawall.
Chairman of the Community, Mr. Christopher Kemasuode, made the call after erosion washed away the Community seawall last week thereby causing fear on the indigenes of the Community.
Mr. Christopher said, in year 2009, in front of Ekpiekiri Primary School, the seawall was also washed away by same erosion thereby causing serious flooding during the rainy season because nothing has been done on that.
He said, there were abandoned heavy weight Reno mattress and granite which belong to NDDC meant for the construction of sand filling and shore protection (pilling) in the community since 2012 that were kept in the eroded part.
Mr. Christopher added that when he noticed signs of erosion from the beginning, he put call to the contractor in charge of the project to quickly come and evacuate the properties before things get out of hand.

Christopher said, the contractor could only evacuate few of the pilling Reno mattresses, adding that many were left behind including the granite.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Community Comrade Joseph Z Navy described the situation as a natural disaster which can escalate if drastic step is not taken to curtail further destruction.
Comrade Joseph said, although the heavy weight Reno mattress and the granite also was a contributing factor for the erosion.
He said that it is certain that the eroded part of the seawall will definitely be a channel by which water will flow into the community to submerge all the buildings.
“We therefore appeal to the FG, the board of NDDC and Delta State Government to intervene as the erosion will cause serious flooding,” he said.
