DTSG, Delta South, Central Have Continually Marginalised Urhobos In Warri
By Daniel Dafe, Abraka
Sir Ohwo Benson Oghotoma (OBO) has joined the campaign of Deltans advocating that Urhbos in Warri should be recognized and given their due entitlement.
Recall that some individuals and groups have said that Delta South should no more be considered as made up of the Ijaws, Itsekiris and the Isokos, saying that the Urhobos in Warri must make this list.
Oghotoma, who spoke to Oasis Magazine exclusively, said that he was the first to promote Urhobos in Warri
He added: “The Urhobos in Warri have been excluded for a very long time and marginalized not only in Delta South but by the entire Delta State. They just group them to be Urhobos, yet Urhobos in Delta Central do not recognize them or give them anything.”
According to him, “It is only Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President, that recognized them by pushing Benard Okumagba to the federal government for NDDC board Chairman.”

He continued: “They are only just using them to get attention that the Urhobos are part of those that own Warri but the truth of the matter is that they have been part of those that own Warri. Peope should stop saying they have their kinsmen in Delta Central.
“The Urhobos are in Patani and Warri South. I am of the opinion that Urhobos in Warri must be recognised not just in Delta South, but the Urhobos in Delta Central must also recognize them. Urhobos in Warri are not even playing second fiddle but off the game.
“We in Isoko feel marginalised but these people are more neglected completely in Delta State. Apart from Okumagba family, there are other Urhobo families in Delta South that must come out and be recognized.”
Furthermore, he opined that Urhobos in Delta Central use Urhobos in Warri mainly to fight Itsekiri, adding that they have not thought of making them politically relevant.
