Mother Of DELSU Student, Elozino Murdered By Ritualists Threatens ‘Suicide’, Says Okowa Abandoned Her

Mother of Elozino Ogege, who was murdered by suspected ritualists, Mrs. Elizabeth Ogege has described herself as a “walking corpse”, threatening to take her life over frequent adjournment on the court trial of suspects, Leadership News reports.

The 52-year-old widow lamented that “there was no need to continue to live when the Delta State Government cannot ensure justice for her family.

While regretting that the promises the Delta State government made to her family when they visited Government House, Asaba, have not been fulfilled, except that the family has been abandoned, she said the family was tired of travelling to Asaba, the state capital, to attend court sittings, only to get there and the case is adjourned without recourse for the pains of the family.

Elozino, a first class undergraduate of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, was gruesomely murdered November 2018 by suspected Yahoo Boys who harvested her breasts and tongue in the university community and subsequently dumped her corpse in a bush.

Four suspects were arrested for involvement in the killing of the 300-level Mass Communication student, three suspects are currently standing trial at Delta State High Court 1 in Asaba, the state capital on murder charges, the fourth accused reported dead in detention.

Following another adjournment on the trial Wednesday over absence of accused’s lawyer, the bereaved mother lamented that almost three years after her daughter was murdered, justice has remained elusive for the family.

Ogege, who disclosed losing her husband when her late daughter was still an infant, lamented that the court keeps adjourning the case without perceived considerations for her pains and the need for justice for her daughter.

She said the frequent adjournments of the case without meaningful progress has left her “living like a walking corpse. With the way I am now, I prefer to die than live the way I am living. There’s no life in me. This pain is too much. I can’t bear it again. The case was heard today, yet adjourned again because lawyer to the killers of my daughter was not present in court and this is how it had been.”

“When I met with the Delta State Government, Governor Okowa begged me not to die. God heard his prayer. It’s only God that is keeping me alive if not I want to die. The pain is unbearable.

“The governor promised to assist me to ensure that my daughter gets justice. Okowa specifically promised that he will not leave me alone but all the promises the governor made, none has been kept by the government.

“Most painful is the promise by the government to ensure that Elozino’s elder sister who gave up her education for my late daughter returns to school to ease my pain. She is yet to be given admission at the Delta State School of Nursing, Edjeba, Warri”

“The case should be decided. Knowing the case is still on keeps the gruesome manner Elozino was murdered fresh in our hearts. The case should be decided for the whole world to know the outcome. We are tired of travelling to Asaba. We valued Elozino that’s why we must attend court trials”, she lamented.
