Emefiele’s Birthday Jamboree In Jamaica: Can Anyone Still Blame Obi Cubana?

The Jamaica birthday jamboree by CBN Governor, Emefiele, if it is true, then it is reprehensible

By his conduct, he seems to approve profligacy among Nigerians, including unlawful abuse of the Naira.

For weeks, the news has trended online, on the jamboree of a private birthday party staged by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele in far away Jamaica.

The said lavish celebration reportedly attracted the crème de la crème in Nigeria’s banking and finance industry and other notable figures including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote who gathered on a weekend for frontal display of wealth in the Caribbean country of Jamaica.

Incidentally, the CBN Governor or anyone mentioned at that party have not formally refuted the report. If indeed, the online report is factual, it leaves much to be desired why Emefiele now desires to compete with the Obi-Cubanas, E-Moneys, the Hushpuppis in indecent flaunting of wealth, much from opaque sources.

If the Chief Banker of Nigeria can throw caution to the wind to as much as fly from the comfort of his Nigeria big status into Jamaica for a mere birthday party, then why should anyone blame Kubana for spending irresponsibly.

A lavish birthday party in Jamaica is least expected of the Central Bank Governor. The action Emefiele took also encourages capital flight from Nigeria, given the cost of flying with hangers on the jamboree to Jamaica and the intended luxury to experience therein.

Beyond the ordinary of the oddity on the CBN Governor’s behaviour, fully gives room for suspicion of ulterior motive. Overall it is strange and condemnable for Emefiele to indulge in Kubana style of celebration on a birthday party.

It’s hard to doubt if he does not approve of the indecent display of wealth as recently displayed by Kubana and associates. Perhaps that was why Emefiele deliberately turned blind eye to the flagrant unlawful abuse of the Nigeria Naira by Kubana and friends during recent burial of his mother in Oba, Anambra State.

The law is clear that public spraying of the nation’s currency constitute a punishable offense. But the CBN Governor who should direct the appropriate security/anti-graft authorities for the enforcement of the law against the naira abusers may have, perhaps been guilty of same offence in moving a mere birthday party to Jamaica.

Does Emefiele mean there are no befitting spots to have celebrated his birthday in Nigeria, no matter how flamboyantly planned. It’s such a shame, for our nation, Nigeria.

The CBN Governor’s drift into overseas jamborees further provides suspicion if Nigerian politicians and their “fronts” may have fashioned another route for laundering stolen public funds.

Since all eyes are on them in Dubai, London, Paris, New York, Swiss, and other popular destinations, one wonders, has Jamaica become the new safe haven for laundering Nigeria’s commonwealth?
