Former DELSU Registrar, Udjo Dies In Ghastly Motor Accident, As VC Reacts

Former Registrar, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Mr. Ejiroghene Udjo, is dead.

Sources said he died in a ghastly motor accident on Monday, but could not give further details.

Reacting to the sad news, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, said they were informed of his demise on Tuesday.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine exclusively, Egwunyenga, added that Udjo was one of the institution’s very best.

His words: “He was a very good Registrar, particularly with his gift of writing very clearly. He wrote very well; he was able to organize and had very good human relations.”

He continued: “In his time as Registrar, the university witnessed a lot of development. We will miss him very much. I was very anxious awaiting his return from where he went on leave of absence as a Registrar as well to another institution in the southern part of the state.

“We were just hoping that he will return after serving in the School of Maritime Technology where he went to help set up the Registry department.

“When the news broke this morning, I was very devastated because I was already preparing where he will stay at least for a year before retiring formally because he was going to return to the university.

”I was going to deploy his writing skills to help my office because it is not very common to find people who know how to write very well. He was a very experienced public servant and university administrator and the university will miss him very much.

“For me, it is the end of a very wonderful era and I only wish that God will have mercy on his soul and reward him with heaven which is the goal of every human that lives here.”

Furthermore, on behalf of the university, the VC condoled with the family of the deceased, his wife, his community, Eku and others that were endeared to him, particularly his uncle, Professor Igun, a former Vice Chancellor of DELSU (who he said broke the news to some of them).

Udjo left behind an aged father, a wife, Mrs. Betty Udjo (who is a staff of the institution) and four children.
