Delta Commissioner Assures ACNPN Of Fulfilling Lands Ministry’s Promise Of Land For Their Secretariat

The Delta State Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Hon. (Mrs) Kate Onianwa has assured Publishers under the aegis of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Chapter that she would fulfill the promise made by her predecessors to allot land to them for the building of their Secretariat.

She made this promise when she played host to members of the indigenous media constituency in the state, who paid a familiarisation visit to her office, on Thursday, 23rd September, 2021.

Though the Commissioner clarified that there is no land anywhere again to allocate to individuals or groups in the state, thereby promising to personally buy one for the Association before the end of her appointment.

Onianwa affirmed that the role of grassroots media is critical in helping government advance her policies and programmes to the people, hence they need support in any form that could aid their stability and sustenance.

She personally spoke highly of the publishers’ chairman and publisher of Zion Nationale Newspaper, Mr. Jude Obiemenyego whom she identified as a steady friend for several years now, adding that the visit of the group under his leadership would further cement her relationship with the group.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner appealed to the Publishers to always endeavour to hold unbiased judgment in reporting the activities of the government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, adding that as Governor he had recorded giant strides in human capital and infrastructural development.

She averred that Okowa is a peace maker and lover of God, insisting that the state had not known peace the way it is doing in Okowa’s time as Governor.

Earlier while speaking, ACNPN Chairman, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego had pledged the commitment of the community newspaper publishers in supporting the workings of the Lands Ministry to achieve its optimum goal.

He said the Association is pleased to report that in few months of her appointment as Commissioner, Hon. Onianwa had made positive policies that have repositioned the Ministry in line with Stronger Delta Agenda of Governor Okowa.

Obiemenyego stated that on the basis of the above mentioned immediate achievements, long standing progressive antecedents and verifiable contributions to human capital development, the Association had selected her to receive the ACNPN’s Community Champion Award as the Woman of the Year.

While equally notifying the Honourable Commissioner of an application and pending promise for a parcel of land to develop the Association’s Secretariat, the ACNPN’s Chairman stressed that the Association reposes the confidence in her to fulfill the long standing promise of a gift of land.

Once again, he assured the Commissioner of the Association’s continuous mutual relationship, support and cooperation to aid the success of Governor Okowa-led administration towards finishing strong.
