DTSG Delegation Visits Ogume Over Burnt School, Commiserates With Family Of Deceased Student

Delta State Government has decried the unfortunate incident at Ogume Grammar school, Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state where hoodlums burnt the school and in the process a female student of the school lost her life.
The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu stated this at Ogume during a fact finding mission to the community.
Mrs. Ezewu, who was accompanied by the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu , the member representing Patani,Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe and the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Ede Oghoro as well as the Director of School in the ministry, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah among others said that the state government was pained by the death of the student.
While commiserating with the parents of the deceased, Mrs. Ezewu also sympathised with the principal of the school that was allegedly beaten up by cultists that perpetrated the hineous crime and who is currently receiving treatment at Kwale General Hospital .
The commissioner, however, commended the community leaders for their proactive effort towards bringing peace to the community.
She warned them them that any time there was issue in the community they should spare school facilities just as she said that the destroyed facilities must be repaired by the community.
Mrs. Ezewu who, expressed displeasure with the attitudes of the touts who destroyed school facilities, said that such act was uncalled for.
Also speaking, the member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu told the community that government was not responsible for the repair of the burnt facility, adding that the community would rebuild the destroyed facilities.
As at the time of filing this report, the medical Director of Kwale General Hospital had informed the delegation that the principal needed to be referred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) , Asaba for scanning.
Property burnt included the ICT centre in the school, principal’s office, principal’s car and administrative office among others.
