A suspected church burglar has been burnt to death by an irate mob in Warri in the early hours of Saturday, October 30, 2021.

It was alleged that the suspect had along with his colleagues in crime burgled a popular pentecostal church in the area in the early hours of the fateful day.

It was gathered that some vigilant residents of the area confronted the suspect and his gang during their alleged operation.

The burglars were said to have been over powered during the encounter and consequently took to their heels.

However, the burnt suspect was caught and beaten up to a point of death before setting him ablaze by the angry mob.

It was further gathered that when he was being set ablaze, his kinsmen from a community across the Warri River, by the Market Road, came in their numbers and attempted to rescue him with arms, but were repelled by some soldiers in the area.

However, they were said to have regrouped and removed the burnt body of the suspect to their community in the presence of some policemen.

Efforts to hear from the pastor of the church has been unsuccessful.

However, a resident in the area, who spoke to journalists on the condition of anonymity, stated that the pastor had complained bitterly about constant burgling of valuables in the church.

The source said that the embattled pastor had simply prayed that those behind the unholy act should be exposed and disgraced in no distant time.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command in Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe, who was contacted for confirmation of the incident, said he was not aware of it.
