2023: Our Loyalty Is To PDP —UYLA
Selection, Screening Of Aspirants Should Be Left To Party, Not Pressure Groups
By Nelly Ikwuonu
President, Urhobo Youth Leaders Association (UYLA), Olorogun Anthony Onoriode Ofoni, on Thursday said the group’s loyality is to PDP.
Speaking during a press conference at Don Chisel Hotel, Oguname-Olomu, he opined that this is because “only the PDP has this lofty window of rotational policy in the state.”
Speaking futher, he said that “one of the immediate mission of UYLA is to lobby leaders and stakeholders for the actualization of the unwritten gentleman’s agreement of the Delta State People’s Democratic Party, PDP, concerning the rotation of the governorship position among the three senatorial districts of the state.”

He added: “It will be the turn of Delta senatorial district to produce the next Governor.”
Ofoni disclosed that “the association has been lobbying and will continue to lobby other groups with the same and divergent interests to support the Urhobo Governorship agenda 2023.”
He said “some of the consultative and interactive visits UYLA has embarked on in recent times include visits to Delta state PDP Chairman, Barr. Kingsley Esiso, PDP National Deputy Organising Secretary, Olorogun Sen. Ighoyota Amori JP, Former Minister of Information, Prof Sam Ejite Oyovbaire and other leaders who have demonstrated copious commitment to the Urhobo
Governorship project for 2023 and absolute support to the directive of Governor Okowa.”
Ofoni also defended their visit to Delta Central 2023 (DC-23) and other groups.
“Our purpose of visiting the DC-23 was to thank them for working for the Urhobo course. However, we expressed our reservation on the screening exercise of aspirant, so that some aspirant will not be disenfranchised,” he added.
Olorogun Ofoni said that selection and screening of aspirans should be left to party leadership and not pressure groups within the party.
While stating that UYLA is not interested in the selection of the party’s candidate, he said that they are only interested in the candidate to be presented in the party, PDP and the leader of the party, Gov Okowa.
