BREAKING: NFF Sacks Gernot Rohr

Gernot Rohr has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of the senior national team, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The decision to part ways with the Franco-German manager was taken after a company associated with the Senior national team of Nigeria agreed to pay the termination clause in the contract of the coach.

This is also coming on the back of a string of sub-par results with the national team, despite the country sealing a World Cup playoff berth earlier this week.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have already communicated the decision to the coach and have begun the search for a new coach to carry the team into what is set to be a busy year, with the Nations Cup and the World Cup all coming in 2022.

He was appointed in 2015, and led the team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles clinched bronze, and also qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He has also been credited with the development and tutelage of young and promising players such as Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhem, Samuel Chukwueze, and Wilfred Ndidi.
