People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders in Ndokwa East Local Government Area have emphasized that no ethnic nationality, group or senatorial district can claim monopoly of governorship in Delta State.

The Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders made their position known during a consultative visit by the Delta Ijaw for Governor 2023 Lobby Team led by Former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo at the residence of Chief Godswill Obielum in Asaba in continuation of the group’s visit to political leaders, elders, stakeholders, traditional rulers and ethnic nationaliaties among others.

The Ndokwa East political leaders who spoke through Chief Godswill Obielum said the Ijaws have every right to be governor of Delta State because they have a strong case.

Chief Obielum opined that “No ethnic nationality, group or senatorial district can claim monopoly of governorship in Delta State, it doesn’t work that way, in this state…no ethnic group is greater than the other, we are all equal…..non is more equal than the other”.

Chief Obielum further stated…..”the Ijaws of Delta South have every right to be governor of Delta State….you are qualified to be governor, you are qualified to win if it is the will of God, power belongs to God….the Ijaws have made their points very clear…..in Delta State politics there is nowhere rotation was agreed”…. Obielum added.

“Supposed the Urhobos won the primaries and governorship in 2015, will they be talking about zoning….we cannot say the governorship is reserved for one ethnic group”.

He stated that ……”the governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is the leader of the party in the state, he is a Delta Northerner and we are privilege to have him as our leader, he believes in justice, he will advice us on how to go about 2023 ….this delegation should go and see him to state the Ijaw position, he will provide a level playing field because he is a product of a level playing field”.

Earlier, the Leader of the Delta Ijaw for Governor 2023 Lobby Team and Former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo said the Ijaws of Delta South have decided to throw their hat into the contest for governorship come 2023.

He said that “…we the Ijaws have always supported others from 1999……Chief Ibori came out form Delta Central we supported, Dr Uduaghan from Delta South we supported and we supported Senator Okowa from Delta North to be governor”.

“We cannot just look only one way, if Delta Central, South and North have enjoyed the governorship, it is only fair that the goodies should go round, despite the fact that our son contested in 2015, we the Ijaws opted out to support Senator Okowa…”

….we cannot just be hewers of wood and fetchers of water, we too have ambition,we have sacrificed and we feel that having regard to the contributions we have made to the state economically, politically, socially and security wise at least let us taste power in 2023″….Bozimo added.

The Former Minister noted….”like the osusu system after it has gone round, it is not automatic that the one who picked first must start again…we have decided to go round and appeal to our brothers to please remember us…there is no rule on zoning but if you must zone please zone it to Delta South for equity, justice and fairness, it is sheer arrogance for any group to say it is my turn ….” .

“Three of our sons have indicated interest…the Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, Senator James Manager and Dr Braduce Angozi…”…..Bozimo added.
