Delta Market Shutdown As COCOSA Begins 75th Anniversary Celebration

Igbudu market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State Was Thursday shutdown as the College of Commerce Old Students Association,COCOSA began her seventy fifth(75th)year anniversary celebration.

The Old Students wore the uniform of their alma mater, staged a rally round the town as they caused serious vehicular traffic with their dance steps to the tune of a DJ on a moving trailer.

The old students began the rally from Atie-Arubi Street, Bazunu,Lower Erejuwa, garage, Hausa quarters, Deco road and terminated at the school’s compound.

In a chat with newsmen, COCOSA National President, Mr. Patrick Ederhi Esq expressed joy that the institution is celebrating its 75th year anniversary in his time.

The legal practitioner said the landscaping on the flooded area of the college will be completed soonest by the Delta State Government.

While noting that development is ongoing at the institution, Ederhi said Youth Corper’s and Teacher’s lodge has been completed.

Ederhi also appealed to the Delta State Government to do more for the college to encourage teaching and learning amongst teachers and students.

He equally called on stakeholders to join hands with COCOSA in developing the institution.

The Ohwofasa of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, Olorogun Onome Yegbeburu, COCOSA former national president said flooding in the college has taken another dimension.

Olorogun Yegbeburu said there is no government’s presence in the college. According to Olorogun Yegbeburu, efforts to reach out to government were to no avail.

Olorogun Yegbeburu who described the flooding in the college as a den of fish, recalled that former Governor James Onanefe Ibori did the fencing and roofing of the college during his administration.

He noted that a lot of projects were budgeted for but they saw nothing.

He added: “Till this day, government is not doing anything. Students are suffering, teachers can’t enter school. Learning is impossible. Look at the leg bridge. The school fence has fallen. Nothing is done.

According to Olorogun Yegbeburu, learning in a place like this, I don’t know what the students will gain.”

Olorogun Yegbeburu who graduated from the College of Commerce Warri in 1979 appealed to the Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa led Delta State Government to turn his face of development to the college and help renovate the structures as well as build new and gigantic structures with a view to uplifting the standard of education in the school.

He also urged stakeholders to join hands with the COCOSA leadership in developing the college.

The Chairman Planning Committee of the COCOSA 75th anniversary celebration, Chief Reginald Chuks Amadi who expressed joy at the moment said, “I feel great. Over happy wearing my uniform.”

Chief Amadi noted that the school floods in time past but not as it is now.

He said there was need to do proper drainage to improve on the flooding of the school.

He also appealed to Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa not to allow education infrastructure to die.

He stressed that doing so, will destroy the health of the children.

While noting that the State Government is trying its best, Chief Amadi said,”Their best is not enough.”
