Ure-Igho MPCS, A Veritable Tool For Members’ Economic Sustainability, Growth, Development, Says Ajeje

The President, Ure-Igho Multipurpose Co-operative Society, 15, Asiughwuru Street, Okumagba layout, Warri, Delta State, Elder James Ajeje has said, the co-operative is a veritable tool for members’ economic sustainability, growth and development.

Elder Ajeje stated this over the weekend at the 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body held at Crown Hotel, by Delta Palace, Airport Road, Warri, Delta State.

He said the co-operative has imparted positively on the lives of many especially the less-privileged by way of empowerment as it has made many to finance their businesses, build houses, buy cars, among others since its inception in 1996.

He said the government is not trying enough but with power of the cooperative, many are able to take care of their families in many ways especially in the area of their children’s education.

He said: ”This co-operative has improved on the lives of many: mechanics, petty traders, and other people; it has made many people to own houses.”

The President and his executive members who were returned unopposed, said, he has piloted the organisation as the President for the past 20 years, saying, today’s re-election as the President along with his cabinet is an indication that he is doing well with his executive members.

He therefore called on his executive members to always give him ideas and suggestions on the best way to achieve success in his leadership because he can not know it all.

The president continued: ”I have been President of this co-operative for the past 20 years and today’s re-election with my cabinet is an indication that we are doing well. I therefore welcome pieces of advice and suggestions from my cabinet members because I am human, I can not know it all.”

Elder Ajeje who is also a Board member and currently, the Treasurer of the Delta State Financial Co-operative Agency, Ltd, Asaba, was overwhelmed with joy on his re-election.

He said although the organisation passed through many teething challenges especially at earlier time of its establishment, by the grace of God, it has been able to overcome these challenges and today, it is doing well and can be said to be one of the best in the state.

He therefore advised those who are yet to join to do so in order to enjoy the benefits members, at present, enjoy.

He said this year under review, despite the challenges of Corona- Virus pandemic, lock -down, End-SARS, among others, the co-operative was able to achieve its meaningful goals.

According to.him, among other achievements are the number of members which rose from three hundred and ninety six (396) to four hundred and fifty six(456).

He disclosed that at the end of the period under review; the net surplus of the year stands at N17,030,529.55 as against N11,187,998.54 of the year 2019.

He said that shares and thrift savings stand at N91,927,225.00 and N32,182,935.00 respectively.

Elder Ajeje said by the grace of God, the co-operative has been able to have its secretariat (building) and ½ acre of landed property at Agbarho, Delta State, among others.

He therefore thanked the members of the committee and entire members of the co-operative for their contributions and encouragement which made the Co-operative to achieve this feat so far.

He also thanked the Delta State Co-operative agency for their financial and moral support just as he thanked the General Secretary to have done a thorough job.
