Kaduna NUJ Polls: Zaria Unit Demands Free Fair Polls, Warns Against Imposition
While making their stands known ahead of the 2021 NIgeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna Council Polls, Zaria Unit has declared that all they demand is a free and fair election, devoid of intimidation and imposition.
Chairman of the unit, Alhaji Sagir Auwal expressed this when Team Farida Campaign visited them on Tuesday, as part of rounding up campaign ahead of the polls billed for December 16.
“We are waiting to go to the field and vote candidates of our choice, we are not in anyway supporting imposition,” he said.

He said that Zaria Unit is a major stakeholder because they have eligible members that have voting rights, that determine outcome of elections.
“We are registered members and have voting rights,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that the unit does not belong to any campaign team, but will focus on voting in the best candidate to ensure progress of the union.
“I believe at the end of the race, there will be a loser and winner.
“We don’t have a party, NUJ is our party,” he said.
He welcomed the team and described their coming as a step towards success.
“For visiting us, you have us at heart.
“We are neglected. But as a unit, the council is expected to carry us along in activities.
“We need an administration that will recognize us in terms of welfare, committees and other benefits.
“Sometimes, NUJ comes here to host workshops which we only see in the news.
“We request to be carried along. We need to be part of decision making so that we can move the union forward.
“We have many requests, we will write them out and believe you will look at them when you emerge,” he said
Earlier in her remarks, Farida Abubakar assured that if she emerges, she would be transparent, democratic and would run an all inclusive administration, seeking to unite all members.
In his vote of thanks, Balarabe Lawal Zaria aka BLZ said that the ship of NUJ is in a turbulent position and only a good captain can salvage the situation.
“We all pitched tents with Farida because of her credibility,” he said.
