NYSC DG Urges Corps Members To Utilise Social Media To Promote National Unity

As 2,258 Pass Out Of Orientation Course In Delta

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has urged corps members who today passed out of Orientation Course from various camps across the country, to avoid using the social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred; but to instead, engage in activities targeted at self-improvement as well as promotion of the unity, peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

The DG gave this advice in his address which was read at the Terminal Parade/Closing Ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 Orientation Course, held on Tuesday, 14th December, 2021, at various states’ Orientation Camps across the country.

Ibrahim also charged the corps members to avoid being speculative on issues affecting the NYSC and, instead, visit the NYSC website, social media platforms and other channels for clarification.

The Director General commended the corps members for participating adequately in the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, maintaining that he was happy to have received impressive reports of their participations. He encouraged them to build on the skills acquired for future purposes, which he said would be beneficial for self empowerment and employment.

As a father, the DG implored the corps members to take the security of their lives seriously in view of the recent security challenges in the country. He warned them against unauthorised journeys and night trips, insisting that if they did, they should pass the night at military barracks or other locations officially designated as safe.

Moreover, he reminded the corps members of the Federal Government’s plan to make presentation of evidence of Covid-19 vaccination a condition for gaining entry to Government offices from December 1st, 2021; thereby urging them to make themselves available for vaccination if they had not done so, as the rule would apply to them in their places of Primary Assignments.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Coordinator, Mr Olaosebikan Alao was glad to note the level of discipline exhibited in Camp by the Batch ‘C’ Stream 11, adding that Nigerian youths are ready to learn responsibility if measures are put in place for them to follow.

Mr Alao gave the number of corps members that participated at the Terminal Parade/Closing Ceremony of the 2021 Orientation Course In Delta to 2,258.

While urging employers of labour to accept corps members deployed to their organisations for service, Mr Alao implored the corps members not to taint the image of the Scheme but to remain good ambassadors of NYSC at all times.
