A commercial tricycle operator popularly known as keke rider, Mr Lucky Robison was recently allegedly stabbed to the point of death by one Agbero who works under Udu Environmental Task Force in Udu Local Government Area of the state.

The incidence happened on Friday, 25th March, 2022.

The culprit was said to be employed by the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Hon Jite Brown and under the supervision of one Hon Voke Bukata.

It was gathered that the victim was at work on that fateful day when the culprit stopped and harassed the driver at the very busy Ovwian Express junction.

It was gathered that in the process, the culprit wanted to extort the victim. When the victim refused to part with the said money, argument ensued which eventually led to serious argument and the Agbero stabbing the victim to the point of death.

As at the time of filing this report, the victim is still receiving treatment with blood gushing out of his mouth, ear and nose.

Reacting to this development, the Udu Unit coordinator of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Comrade Charlse Oviri condemned the action of the Agbero who works under Environmental Task Force in strong terms which led to the attempted murder of the tricycle rider.

He wondered why Environment Task Force and Vigilante Group should remove plate numbers of vehicle and Tricycle who have not committed traffic offense or obstructing movements.

He also stated that it ‘s a criminal offense to take away someone’s plate number, adding that it is against the law of the federal republic of Nigeria and thus unconstitutional.

He also stated that the Local Government Chairman employed the services of these thugs as task force in a bid to empower them as compensation for supporting his political ambition and thereby extorting money from hardworking tricyclists and motorists in the roads because they are not being paid.

He said: “l begin to wonder since when Environmental Task Force has been given the power to take laws into their hands in this state. This is thuggery and not the best way to go in clearing road traffic for motorist. You can’t employ the services of a thug who is not paid to ascertain road traffic offenses.

Comrade Oviri, said this set of Environmental Task Force officials in Udu are not properly briefed and guided on the roles they are supposed to play in managing traffic, saying that the Agbero (culprit) took laws into his hands hence there was fracas which enventually led to his stabbing of the victim.

He therefore called on the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Hon Jite Brown to call the Environmental Task Force to order in this regard just as he urged the state government under leadership of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the Nigeria Police Force to wade into the matter for proper investigation and the culprit is prosecuted and given adequate punishment to serve as deterrent to others.

He said: “l therefore call on the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area to properly spell out the duty of the Environmental Task Force and the state government and Nigeria Police Force to wade into the matter by investigating the incident and culprit is adequately punished to serve as deterrent to others”.

It would be recalled in recent time, in Delta State, that Vigilante including Environmental Tasks Force have taken over the work of the Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) and Nigeria Police Force on the roads especially in Warri, Effurun and their environs as they now stop and search vehicles including driver’s license and in the process, extort money from tricyclists and motorists on the roads.
