The newly elected President General of Urhuoka in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Evang. John Avwenaghegha, has urged the community to be united on all fronts, promising key changes for the people during his three-year term.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine exclusively, the new PG who was sworn-in December 26, 2021, said his past records, love for the community, inputs towards Urhuoka’s development and his promotion for the culture and tradition of the people led to his emergence.

He continued: “I was at home when I received a call from our parent branch in Warri, the Eguono-Urhoka branch that I am a consensus candidate. The Eguono-Urhoka branch comprises of all the quarters in Urhuoka. So, they found me worthy that I can do it better for them. That is why they gave me the mandate to go and enroll.”

According to him, his vision is to unite the community so that they can all speak with one voice always, adding that benefits that accrue to others in Abraka will also get to them as he takes over as PG.

He said: “For instance, Urhuoka is the most senior community in the whole Oruarivie Abraka and even Abraka as a whole does not have a town hall like smaller communities that have theirs built for them by the government and other institutions. Urhuoka has a very big maternity, but since the day Uduaghan built and furnished it till this very moment, nobody has come there as a government functionary to say, we want to develop the place, employ people or even post people. Ministry of Health till today did not remember that they have such a project there.

“So, I have started and I have met with people that matters in the health sector to ensure that in the next three months I will turn the face of government to that maternity so that they can do something for us.”

Speaking of the insecurity situation in the area, he said that he was aware that the government has established a group called National Hunters Corps (NHC), saying that they are in town and that they have assured him that the group is here and their major job is to ensure that there is peace.

“I am also beefing up the security network especially the local vigilantes that are recognized. I am doing these with the view to ensure that people can sleep without their doors locked,” he said.

Asked what he will do about the factional groups in the community, he said: “We do not have factions, but a decedent group headed by a woman in Ogwezzi they call Comfort Itimeh. She is married from Jesse and I’m surprised that she championed evil against this regime. I have approached her times without number and she is becoming too problematic. “

Adding: “She even went as far as stopping other people from other communities from coming to trade in our market. It is unheard of. I have reported to the children and asked them to caution or advice their mother per say that if such repeats itself again, I will deal with her and anybody that is concerned.”

Speaking further, he advised the Urhuoka people to see themselves as one, stressing that they must respect constituted authority.

Meanwhile, he called on criminals, especially those who have been stealing and making the community restless to change.

“There is a program that is coming that has to do with trade. So, if you have something doing, you will not think of going to steal. We are going to set up a committee that will approach these professionals to teach our children. So the earlier they register the better for them because this administration will not tolerate stealing. This administration will not tolerate back biting, running to the police when there is no issue just to make an alarm and noise that you arrested someone. I thank God that the present DPO is a decent human being and we shall soon be visiting him to seek his support to this regime,” he said.
