2023: Group Kicks Against Imposition Of State House Of Assembly Candidates In Sagbama Constituency 2, 3
Sagbama Caucus Forum under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ably led by Chief Pereyibofa Wilson, has condemned in strong terms of the purported selected list of State House Of Assembly Candidates in Sagbama Constituency two (2) and three (3) respectively, by Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Elders.
A statement signed by Chief Pereyibofa Wilson, said “the purported selected list of State House Of Assembly Candidates in Sagbama Constituency 2 and 3 were formed by Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Eders without consulting critical Stakeholders of the Party in the Constituencies and the Local Government Area which is totally unacceptable and condemnable.”
“Investigations indicate that Elders from Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, Chief Timi Alaibe, Hon. Gesiye Asamowei, personally constituted the purported list of State House of Assembly Candidates in Sagbama Constituency 2 and 3 respectively, without the consent of critical Stakeholders of the Party in the Constituencies and the Local Government Area at large.
“The wife of the nominated house of assembly candidate in sagbama constituency 2, Hon. Bernard Kenebai, is a relative of Governor Douye Diri, from Odi Community in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area. Investigations indicate that the Governor personally nominated the candidate for his third tenure as house of assembly member in the constituency.

“The nominated house of assembly candidate in sagbama constituency 3, Hon. Ebizi Brown, is a relative of Hon. Gesiye Asamowei, from Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area. Investigations indicate that the candidate was personally nominated by her uncle, Hon. Gesiye Asamowei and Chief Timi Alaibe, as house of assembly candidate in the constituency.
“It is on record and undeniable fact that Sagbama Local Government Area is the biggest stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State over the years. The imposition of Party Candidates in Sagbama Constituency 2 and 3 respectively in the forthcoming general elections by people from Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area specifically Gov. Douye Diri, will greatly affect the party’s chances of winning elections in the above-mentioned Constituencies respectively.
Chief Wilson further urged Gov. Douye Diri as a matter of urgency to correct the abnormally by allowing a level playing ground for all aspirants under the party platform in the respective Constituencies, most especially in Constituency 3 where the party ticket was zoned to Ward 8 and 9 respectively in the nomination of Candidates that will fly the Party tickets, in order to enhance unity among members of the Party, and work unanimously together towards the success of the Party at the polls.
“The failure of the Governor to do the needful by allowing a level playing ground for all aspirants in Sagbama Constituency 2 and 3 respectively in the nomination of the House of Assembly Candidates in the forthcoming general elections will greatly affect the Party’s chances of winning forthcoming elections in the various Constituencies respectively.
“Gov. Diri’s refusal or negligence to do the needful will lead to the defection of some Party Stakeholders from the above-mentioned Constituencies to the contending opposition Political Party, APC. The defection of any Party Stakeholder to the opposition party will reduce the party’s chances of winning elections from henceforth in the respective Constituencies.”
