Close Ally Says Next Alaafin Will Inherit Oba Lamidi Adeyemi’s Wives
Archbishop Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Ayo Ladigbolu, who is from the Agunloye Ruling House of Oyo Kingdom, has said that the next paramount ruler of Oyo kingdom “will inherit” the widows of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Archbishop Ladigbolu was very close to the late Alaafin of Oyo, who joined his ancestors on Friday, April 22, 2022.

The monarch’s death has caused quite a stir on social media, just as many have wondered what would become of his wives. He reportedly had about 13 wives.
“The new king will inherit them and that is the tradition, but you know things are changing now. Once a woman is married to the Alaafin they are married forever to the Alaafin. You know circumstances of life are changing and we have to adjust to the changing trends.
“They are married to Alaafin and Alaafin is not a person but an institution. The new Alaafin will be responsible for their welfare because they are married to the institution and not just a person. They belong to the Alaafin. But in the light of the prevailing circumstances we will have to adjust,” Archbishop Ladigbolu told Punch in an interview published on Saturday.
Oasis Magazine understands that the queens are not allowed to marry any member of the royal family or ruling branch.
