DELSU: Okowa To Commission Projects In Abraka Saturday, As VC Hints On Legacy Project

Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, has said that Governor of the state, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, will grace the 14th Convocation of the institution on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Egwunyenga disclosed this while speaking to journalists during the institution’s first of its kind World Press Conference on Monday.

According to the VC, apart from gracing the event scheduled to hold at the Convocation Arena in Site III, the Visitor to the University, will also commission projects in the institution on the said day.

He listed the Faculty of Pharmacy Complex; Access Link Roads to Faculty of Pharmacy, Animal House and Faculty of Science; Faculty of Arts Complex, Department of Nursing Science Extension; Educational Technology Building, as projects to be commissioned by the governor.

Professor Egwunyenga, also said that Governor Okowa will lay the foundation stone of the Faculty of Management Sciences Complex, adding that this is his legacy project and that he is determined to complete it before he leaves office.

The week-long 30th Anniversary and 14th Convocation programme began on Friday, April 22, with a Jumat service. An interdenominational church service held on Sunday. Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari is expected to deliver the Convocation Lecture tomorrow, while on Thursday, a Commemorative Lecture will be delivered by Professor Patrick Loch Lumumba.

On Friday, an Alumni Novelty Football Match will take place and Saturday, the Convocation Day for Award of Diplomas, Admission into First Degrees, Higher Degrees and Presentation of Prizes. Also, there will be the investiture of Professor Emeritus on Professor Eric Arubayi and Professor Sam Ukala (posthumously). The institution will also confer Honorary Degrees on two notable Deltans, HRM, Hon. Justice Tabai and Chief Jim James Ovia.
