Downplay White Collar Jobs, Embrace Entrepreneurial Skills To Survive Nation’s Harsh Economy, Education Expert Tells Youths

Following the harship being faced by many Nigerians occasioned by the global economic meltdown, a renowned educationist and Proprietor of Classical International Schools which has its headquarters in Warri and branches across the nation, Dr Ochuko Akpeme, has tasked Nigeria youths to downplay white collar jobs and acquire entrepreneural skills as that is only way they can conquer this global economic meltdown and put food on their table.
Dr. Ochuko Akpeme stated this over the weekend as the school organized its yearly cultural day for the students.
He said overdependance on white collar jobs has made many youths lazy and uncreative.
According to him, many countries of the world that are doing well today are those whose youths have entrepreneural skills, saying if many youths embrace skills, the economy of the country would improve.
He said: “A situation were graduates carry certificates about looking for work would not help our youths.’
He said that in Classical Schools, attention is paid to entrepreneurial skills and crafts apart from the academic work, adding that the purpose is to ensure that students have one skill or the other to depend on upon graduation.
His words: “Here in Classical Schools, we don’t only acquire theoretical knowledge, our children are given entrepreneurial skills to enable them to be self employed on graduation.”
The education expert also charged parents to take the education of their children seriously by attending to their educational needs to enable them do well in life.
He said: “l encourage our parents to attend to the education needs of our children to enable them do well educationally because they are our future leaders”.
Soraking to Oasis Magazine exclusively, two of the parents, High Chief (Pastor) Agboro Blessing and High Chief Vero Emmanuel, said it is good children are engaged in extra curricular activities such as the cultural day, just as they advocated that children are trained in different skills in schools to be self-employed after graduation.
Highlights of the ceremony was students’ cultural dances of Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Ibibio, Calabar among others, and the exhibition of art works produced by students.
