2023: Reno Omokri Backs Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket, Says Nigeria Needs A Reliable, Not Religious Government

By Daniel Dafe
Human Rights activist, Reno Omokri, has weighed in on a trending issue regarding the choice of running mates for presidential candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recall that two Muslim politicians, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
got the tickets of the APC and PDP respectively.
Several individuals and groups have presented divergent views on the need for the said political parties to consider religious balance and opt for Christian running mates.

Just on Friday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) warned both political parties to ensure that they go for Christians since their flag bearers are Muslims.
But, Omokri, a former spokesman to former President Goodluck Jonathan and member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is of the opinion that their picks must not be Christians.
In a tweet on Saturday, he said that “having a Muslim-Christian ticket does not balance Nigeria,” saying that “the government we have now is Muslim-Christian.”
Adding: “Look at how imbalanced Nigeria is. Did Osinbajo represent or protect Christians well?”
According to him, “what Nigeria needs is a reliable government, not a religious government!”
