Governor Okowa Inspects Ongoing Constructions At Dennis Osadebay University

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed satisfaction with the level of progress he has seen at the ongoing construction work at the Dennis Osadebay University, noting that the structures should be ready from one week time to the end of the year.

He said this while inspecting the work.

He mentioned that the state successfully runs 4 universities, adding that his administration understands the importance of education.

On the topic of the 25 billion naira loan requested by the state, the governor said that the state followed due process in obtaining the loan.

He explained that the loan was taken on behalf of the farmers in Delta state, saying that the state merely acted as a guarantor for this loan.

On pensions, he clarified that the administration inherited a backlog of unpaid pensions and has been working steadily to clear it.

He further explained that there are two types of pension schemes namely; The Old Pension Scheme and The Contributory Pension Scheme.

He said the Contributory Pension Scheme comes with challenges which most administrations did not fully understand before entering into it.

According to him, the state spends about 481 million naira monthly in paying pensioners under the Old Pension Scheme.

He added that a large number of pensioners were registered under the Contributory Pension Scheme before the advent of his administration leaving behind a chasm of unpaid pensions, just as he said that nonetheless, his administration is committed to paying as many pensioners as possible.

On his campaign efforts, Okowa assured Deltans that he would remain dedicated to the office of the governor.

He also encouraged the youths to support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), noting that Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar understands the importance of youth empowerment as showcased in his document.

He said: “My Covenant With Nigeria” is one of the reasons he accepted to be his running mate.”

He also sited an example of the numerous entrepreneurship and mentorship programs in the state, promising that this would be expanded to the larger Nigeria under the Atiku/Okowa administration.

Continuing, he encouraged harmony in Nigeria, saying that our diversity should not be a cause for division rather it should encourage peace.
