Delta 2023: Oborevwori Appeals Court Judgment That Disqualified Him As PDP’s Candidate

Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has approached an Appeal Court to upturn the judgment of an Abuja Federal High Court that on Thursday disqualified him as the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Olorogun David Edevbie had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja to disqualify Oborevwori, saying that Oborevwori was not qualified to be the guber candidate of the PDP after he (Oborevwori) clinched the party’s ticket during the governorship primary in the state.

News from the camp of Oborevwori shows that he is determined to reclaim his mandate.

According to an aide to the Speaker, “a notice of Appeal has been filed against the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting at Abuja, delivered on the 7th of July, 2022.”

“The counsel also filed an application for stay of execution and injunction pending Appeal, restraining the PDP and INEC from replacing or substituting the name with any other name pending the determination of the Appeal at the court of Appeal,” he added.

“With the above legal steps, the status quo is to be maintained and Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori remains the candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming coming governorship election in Delta State,” he said.

Contacted, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Dennis Otu, confirmed the development.
