US Based Afemai Group Supports Edo Government With N12M To Procure Security Gadgets

A United States based group, Afemai World Congress Inc. (AWC) has donated the sum of N12 million to Edo State Government as a support to tackle the insecurity menace in the state.

The president of the umbrella body of Edo North people in the United States, Mrs. Fatima Dankano who announced the donation during a visit to Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shuaibu in Benin explained that the bulk of the money is expected for the procurement of “soft” security gadgets which will greatly improve and strengthen the state’s security network.

Mrs. Dankano disclosed that the association is willing to partner with the state government to ensure that security is given priority attention in the state.

She commended the efforts of the state government in tackling the serious security challenges that have confronted the state since the inception of the administration, adding that the donation will be an added impetus to help overcome the present security challenges.

The president commented the different security agencies including the local vigilantes for their determined effort in fighting insecurity.

She assured that the security agencies will continue to enjoy the support of the American based group until all the criminal elements are “hunted down and made to pay the price of their nefarious activities”.

According to her, the Afenmai people in the Diaspora are equally worried like those at home about the worsening security situation in the country.

Mrs. Dankano emphasized: “There is a need to collaborate with the state government in taming the menace, hence the decision to make the donation to reinvigorate the security apparatus in the state.”

Elated, Comrade Shaibu stressed that the gesture is the first of such “show of support” by a body outside the shores of the country.

The deputy governor called on similar bodies to emulate the initiative of AWC by partnering with the government to combat crime and criminality in the state.
