Godswill Akpabio Wins Senate Seat In Akwa Ibom, Governor Ben Ayade Loses In Cross River
The immediate-past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Akwa Ibom North-West election to return to the Senate.
Akpabio won in the majority of the 10 LGAs making up the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District (Akwa Ibom North-West) including Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, Etim Ekpo, Ika, Oruk Anam and Abak LGAs, while his major challenger and former National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Emmanuel Enoidem, won in Ini and Obot Akara LGAs only.
The overwhelming victory of Akpabio, followed the resolution of some factions of the Young Progressives Congress (YPP), the ruling PDP and other political parties to surrender their structures to the former Senate Minority Leader.
In another development, the Senator representing Nothern Senatorial District of Cross River in the National Assembly , Sen Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic party,PDP, has defeated Governor Ben Ayade to clinch the Senate seat.
Senator Jarigbe garnered 76,145 to defeat governor Ben Ayade who polled 56, 595 votes in the exercise.
Declaring Sen. Jarigbe winner of the Senatorial election in the early hours of Monday , 27th , 2023, the returning officer, Dr. Emmanuel Emanghe who spoke on behalf of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC commended stakeholders for their peaceful conduct
Emanghe also lauded all security agents for giving the needed security support which invariably led to successful and credible election.
