Delta Governor-Elect, Oborevwori Assures NUJ Of Important Place In His Government

By Patrick Ochei
The Governor-Elect of Delta State and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has assured members of the fourth estate of the realm, through its leadership in the State, that he would give them opportunity to be important in his Government.
He made this promise while playing host to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, who had visited to congratulate him on his well deserved victory at the just concluded Governorship election in the state.
Oborevwori said he was indeed pleased with the role the media played during the pre-election, the actual election and afterwards, affirming that they were accurate in their reportages, especially on the issue of the INEC staff that were held hostage on election day.

Thanking God for how it ended in praise, he assured the press a pride of place in his administration in order to continue to foster that cordial relationship that has consistently existed between them.
His words, “My election underwent various challenges but God saw me through with victory. For instance, Ethiope East and West are local government areas that PDP had never won in 21 years, but I broke that jinx by winning the two local government areas in addition to other 19.
“I remain eternally grateful to God, and like I have always said that my Government will do MORE for Deltans, I will stand by that promise through a policy of inclusiveness. I want to be Governor for all Deltans; therefore I need the press for partnership.
“In my administration, we will increase the pace of development, and more importantly, change the face of Warri. It will be a team work, no one will be left out or neglected. I want to give you the room now to start evaluating me, that is why I said that the NUJ will be one of the critical stakeholders that will be of importance to my administration.
“God will bless Nigeria. God will bless Delta State. And God will bless NUJ. You all have been my friends, you remain my friends. You can assess me any time, so feel free to reach me when you need me”, he assured.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu had congratulated the Governor-Elect, saying that his election was pleasing to God and Deltans who voted him massively.
Ikeogwu posited that the new Delta henchman has all it takes to administer the State, having held sway as the longest Speaker in the history of Delta State House of Assembly.
According to Ikeogwu, “Your victory is our victory. We have always been proud of you and we will do everything to sustain that cordiality.
“Our prayer is that God will give you the needed wisdom to pilot the affairs of this complex State called Delta. I can only advise that you please, do not change your personality by your elevation. Keep your friends and be mindful of detractors who will come in the guise of loyalists.
“The task ahead of you is enormous, but we pray for the divine disposition to select true leaders that will help you pilot the Government going forward.
“We are happy for you. However, we are here to support you. We will gladly support you as our friend and Governor. Once again, congratulations on your election as our Governor come May 29, 2023”, Ikeogwu said.
