Delta Guber: S’Court May Re-enact Imo Formula –Igho Akeregha

There is concern among some people in Delta State that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege could be made governor of the state using the Supreme Court in what would be a re-enactment of the Imo Formula, Mr Igho Akeregha, president of the Okpe Peoples Forum has said.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News Television, Akeregha who said he monitored the governorship election in the state said the return of Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was widely celebrated as it reflected the wishes of the people.

Akeregha who is also president of the Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO said that Omo-Agege lost traction in the state when focus was brought on the major projects he executed in the state with nearly all the big projects being taken to his community in Orogun.

While endorsing the election of Oborevwori, Akeregha, however, cautioned that foisting Omo-Agege as governor through the Supreme Court would bring apprehension to Deltans.

He said: “Without necessarily debasing all the Justices and Judges, the Supreme Court to me has been dishing out controversial judgments and that is worrisome. The case of Imo readily comes to mind where Hope Uzodimma till today is still battling credibility problem and people refer to him as the Supreme Court governor.

“Delta people are worried that the Supreme Court or the tribunal should not invoke or reenact the Imo episode on Deltans. That is where we are as a state. The victory of Sheriff was overwhelming. It was widely celebrated because if you win an election people should come to the street and celebrate. The celebration was held across Delta North, Delta South and Delta Central.”

Oborevwori was returned as winner of the governorship election with a vote 360,234 ahead of Omo-Agege who was credited with 240,299 votes. Omo-Agege has, however, disagreed alleging that the poll was rigged to favour the PDP’s candidate.

Omo-Agege is now gathering the evidence and supporters say that the Supreme Court could decide on the issue of who is governor by September.
