Warri: Man ‘Brutally’ Attacked With Machete By His Yet-To-Be Brother-inlaw For Claiming Lover’s Pregnancy, Child
By Daniel Dafe
A rights activist in Delta State, Comr. Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, has called for the arrest and prosecution of one Miss Oluchi Paulinus and some of her family members who he said are guilty of attempted murder following the brutal machete attack on Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise said to be in a relationship with Miss Oluchi.
In a statement titled ‘Alleged Case of Attempted Murder of Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise by his wife to be, Miss Oluchi Paulinus, her brother and father,’ made available to journalists, Agberen, said that on Thursday morning, the dastardly act was brought to his attention and two other human rights activist, Comr. Onotu Solomon Ufuoma and Comr. Ufuoma Kingsley Ovwotor.
He said the incidence happened at Idiarekpe Street, Off Okere Ugborikoko Road, Warri, Delta State.
He continued: “From the information we gathered when we visited the family at the hospital, Miss Oluchi gave birth to a daughter for Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise and she is also currently pregnant. She had informed Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise that the child and her current pregnancy doesn’t belong to him; that she only tied the responsibility of the child and pregnancy to him (Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise) because the said father to be wasn’t financially stable to look after the child and her pregnancy as at then.
“On Sunday, the 7th of May 2023, Miss Oluchi and her family invited Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise to her family house to talk things over but Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise disagreed to what they told him but insisted that the child and current pregnancy of Miss Oluchi were his, which resulted to Oluchi’s brother using a Machete on Mr. Avwerosuo Otobrise, while Miss Oluchi Paulinus was with a mortar pestle ready to use on his head.”
He added: “We officially took the family to B-Division of the Nigeria Police Force to make a formal complaint and we are urging the Police to get the alleged suspects arrested and let the law take its own course.”
According to the statement, the victim is currently on oxygen struggling to survive at an undisclosed hospital in Warri, saying that the victim’s left side of his brain was badly wounded.
