7 African Countries Write NECO Examination

Students in 7 African countries are writing the Senior School Certificate Examination and the Basic Education Certificate Examination conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO).
Delta State Coordinator of NECO, Princes Nkechi Ugbaja made the disclosure in Asaba during the preliminary coordination worksop for animal husbandry and home economics subjects examinars .
She said that the governments of the seven countries had embraced the NECO examination which originated from Nigeria.
Ugbaja said that it was not correct the assumption of many parents that NECO examination was not international recognised, adding that it was false claim that the examination was only conducted in Nigeria.
She listed African countries where NECO examination was conducted to include Nigeria, Equitorial Guinea, Cote’devoire, Niger Republic, Togo , Benin Republic and Garbon.
She noted that the conduct of home economics and animal husbandry subjects was highly sensitive and should be handled meticulously.

Ugbaja explained that the workshop was designed to enlighten participants on the tasks ahead , the materials to work with and ensure that it was carried out in with the stipulated time frame.
The State NECO Coordinator asserted that a proper coordination would ensure quality output, adding that participants should apply the experience gained from the workshop towards sustaining the credibility of the examination in the State.
Earlier, the Director of Science Education in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor said that the event had been an annual gathering for selected home economics and and animal husbandry teachers in the State.
Mrs. Igumbor stressed the need for smooth conduct of the examination and called on candidates writing the examination to shun examination malpractices.
She stated that the preliminary coordination worksop was put together to allow uniformity in accessing the practical aspects of the home economics thus improving students’ performances in the external examination .
