Why Oyo Central Deserves Next Speaker— PDP Elites In Diaspora Appeal To Makinde
In the interest of equity, justice, and fairness, the people of Oyo Central have asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership and the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, to zone the position of speaker of the House of Assembly to the senatorial district.
This request was made on Thursday by the pressure political group known as “Oyo PDP Elites Diaspora while addressing newsmen in Ibadan.
The appeal by the group is coming few days after Governor Seyi Makinde commended the current Speaker, Debo Ogundoyin on Monday while commissioning of transformers donated by a philanthropist, Dotun Sanusi.
The group also urged the newly elected and re-elected member across the 33 local governments in Oyo State’s House of Assembly to support the initiative by electing a mature man and someone who can stand firm to lead the state’s legislative affairs, particularly under a working governor like Seyi Makinde who is so bold and firm in his decision-making and resolute in ensuring that whatever he believes in becomes a reality.
The group, in a statement signed by its Cordinator, Mr Khalid AJagbe said Governor Makinde who so fervently believes in fairness, justice and equity would need to prove his claim of “fairness” by zoning the position to Oyo Central, which is currently without any principal officers, and allowing a more qualified man who can complement his efforts on his move for Sustainable Development.

Calling on PDP leaders and members in the state to support the initiative, the group stated that Governor Makinde allowing a more competent man to occupy the position from Oyo central would make them feel belonged in the scheme of things.
He said: “With the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde who is from Oyo South, it means that both the Governor and Speaker are both from the same senatorial district against Oyo Central without any officers from the zone.
“Allowing a more competent man from Oyo central to occupy the Speakership position will not only be fair to Oyo central but will also allow PDP under the full control of Governor Seyi Makinde to hold grip of the zone ahead of the next election.”
While justifying its call for the position to be zoned to the Oyo central and why a more competent man should be given the opportunity, the group stated that “those re-elected from Oyo Central have cognate experience as a ranking member, having spent 4 years in the State Assembly with outstanding results.”
The group stated that the Oyo Central zone had a better chance of producing the Speaker than the Oyo South or Oyo North (Oke-Ogun 1), which produced Governor Makinde and Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal respectively, adding that “political correctness demands that we allow other zones to compete for the position currently held by the South South.”
“We believe the Governor would be seen as walking the talk, especially in his state for the role he played ensuring that power returned to Southwest for the sake of national unity without even minding if it will affect his re-election.
“At a time when Nigeria voted for Justice, Equity and Fairness, in which our own loving and adorable governor Makinde was one of the facilitators, we so much believe that he will make sure that Oyo Central produce the next Speaker”.
Conclusively, the group urged both the members elected and re-elected in Oyo Central Senatorial District to go and vote within themselves in the Assembly for fairness and Justice.
