By Daniel Dafe
The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta Council, has congratulated Comrades Stella Ngozi Macaulay and Eunice Emeyazia on “their well deserved election victories at the just concluded Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Triennial Conference in Abuja,” describing them as “two illustrious and finest female unionists” in Delta NUJ.
This was contained in a statement on Sunday signed by Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman, NUJ Delta Council and Comrade Victor Sorokwu, State Secretary, NUJ Delta Council.
The election which held on Saturday saw Comrade Stella Macaulay, a one time State Secretary of NUJ Delta Council and director in the Delta State Ministry of Information elected as the Vice President, Zone F (South South), while Comrade Eunice Emeyazia was returned unopposed as Zonal Secretary for a second term.
Comrade Macaulay, who campaigned vigorously in the six states of the NUJ South South Zone, armed with an ingenious campaign mantra – “BRACED To The PEAK”; deservedly polled 84 votes, twice the tally, to beat her opponent.
Comrade Umor Bassey Edet from Cross River State but practicing in Akwa Ibom, garnered only 42 votes.
The statement added: “The NUJ Delta leadership is indeed excited that in less than one month on saddle, it led a victorious contingent alongside NAWOJ Delta leadership to attain its first ever National leadership position in NAWOJ, despite fielding two candidates.”
Furthermore, Delta NUJ thanked all NUJ and NAWOJ formations in the six states of Zone F (South South), former President of NAWOJ, Yeye Ifeyinwa Omowale and all other support groups that made the election victories possible.
