National Association of Delta State Students (Nadesstu Worldwide) has frowned at “the long overdue 2023 bursary payment that is yet to be disbursed to deserving students who registered for the 2023 bursary in the state.”

NADESSTU said this on Friday in an Open Letter to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O Oborevwori, Governor, Delta State, signed by Comr. Wiska Monday, National President and Comr. Elvis Omonigho Okeoghene, Senate President and Comr. Ikpidi John, Secretary General.

The apex body governing all students from Delta State origin within and outside the state said the delay in the disbursement of these bursaries has “caused significant financial strain on the affected students, hindering their ability to meet basic needs and sustain their education.*

Adding: “As we are all aware, education is a cornerstone for the development of our society, and timely financial support is crucial for students to excel in their academic pursuits.”

NADESSTU continued: “Your Excellency, we know you not only as a listening Governor but also as one who is already fulfilling his campaign promises to Deltans and one of the promises you made on the 29th of May 2023 is to ensure to complete all ongoing project of the previous administration and you have been doing that but that of the 2023 students bursary that students registered for in the previous administration has not been paid hence the reason we are writing to you openly as the pressure is extremely much on us as students leaders.”

According to the letter, leaders of the body “have been receiving series of threats from our students and the pressure is very high on us currently,” just as the student body expressed fears that they won’t be able to hold back students who may embark on protests soon if the bursary is not paid.

“We appreciate your good works in the state and also the 25% reduction on acceptance fees to new intake in the four(4) State University.

“We respectfully request your intervention in expediting the process of releasing the pending bursaries. This action will not only alleviate the financial burden on the students but also serve as a palliative to students to caution the effects of the fuel subsidy removal and also demonstrate your commitment to fostering a conducive environment for education.

“We are very confident that your prompt attention to this matter will have a positive impact on the lives of many students and contribute to the overall progress of our state.

“Thank you for your understanding and decisive action on this important issue,” the letter concluded.
