Nani Gets Global Climate Change Advocacy Award




The Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Hon. Barr. John Obukowho Nani, has been honoured with a prestigious Climate Change advocacy award by the Nurses Across Borders initiative at a momentous side event during the 28th session of the conference of Parties(COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Expo City, Dubai.

Chief Nani along with other notable individuals were honoured with an esteemed award in recognition of his exceptional dedication and pivotal role in spearheading global climate change campaign and for his groundbreaking efforts towards laying the groundwork for the Climate Change mitigation initiatives and marking a significant milestone in the fight against climate crisis in Delta State during his tenure as the Hon. Commissioner for Environment between 2015 and 2019.

While receiving the award, Barr. Nani expressed his profound gratitude to Nurses Across Boarders for the acknowledgment and emphasized that collective effort is needed to combat climate change.

He noted the vital role of healthcare workers and professionals in addressing environmental challenges, highlighting the intersectionality of health and the environment in safeguarding communities.

He dedicated the award to the Government and People of Delta State led by His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and the immediate past Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa who deemed him fit to be appointed as Hon. Commissioner for Environment in 2015, and for supporting all the initiatives and programmes of the ministry during his tenure.

“This recognition of my little efforts by Nurses Across Borders validates the critical role that every individual can play in effecting the needed positive change and galvanizing global initiatives toward environmental remediation and sustainability,” he stated

Earlier, The President of Nurses Across Borders, Pastor P. O Omoragbon in his speech stated that the group is an esteemed international organization renowned for its commitment to healthcare and environmental advocacy, adding that the award on Chief Nani is in recognition of his remarkable contributions which has resonated on a global scale, earning admiration for his relentless pursuit of environmental conservation and sustainable practices. According to him “Acknowledging the urgency and gravity of the climate related issues, Barr. Nani’s leadership and advocacy resonated profoundly, inspiring action and fostering meaningful discourse on mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. His pivotal role in laying the groundwork for an Environmental proactive Delta State stands as a testament to his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to fostering a sustainable future”

Another notable award recipient during the ceremony, attended by international delegates, climate change activists, and other distinguished personalities at #COP28, was the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt Hon. Sheriff Francis Orowhedor Oborevwori, who was honoured as the Global Champion of Climate Change.
