DELSU Holds 2023/2024 Matriculation Ceremony

The 2023/2024 Matriculation Ceremony of the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, held on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

The event took place at the instituion’s Convocation Arena in Site III.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, said a total of 25, 974 applied for admission into DELSU.

In his breakdown of the 9, 015 that he said were admitted into regular programmes, he disclosed that the Faculty of Science got the highest number of candidates admitted with 2,311, just as he added that the Faculty of Management Sciences and Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences got 1,403 and 1,288 respectively.

He also hinted that the Faculty of Education got a total of 1,190 students, the Faculty of Arts- 693 and Faculty of Social Sciences – 688.

Faculty of Pharmacy -134

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor said that 984 candidates were offered admission into the Centre for Continuing Education Programme, 1,755 candidates into the New Diploma Programme and 928 into the Intensive/Part-time Programme, adding that a total of 1200 candidates were admitted into the Institute of Education.

While remarking that those admitted were the few privileged ones, he noted that DELSU is one of the fourth generation Universities in Nigeria that was established in 1992.

Continuing, he said the institution has distinguished itself in the comity of Universities in Nigeria and the world over.

He continued: “At the moment, all 83 programmes in the university have full NUC accreditation status.”

Furthermore, he said that matriculation ceremony is a requirement in higher institutions.

He urged those admitted to be diligent in their academic work and avoid being captives of the social media.

Speaking further, Egwunyenga called on the matriculating students to shun all forms of vices.

“Cultism on campuses of this university is banned and remains banned,” he said.

While commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the giant strides taken in the overall development of the University, he assured that DELSU will remain focused in pursuing academic excellence.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath on the new intakes.
