The DELTANS LIFE MATTERS, an NGO committed to good governance and the rule of law extols Governor Oborevwori of Delta state for keeping faith with his electoral promises to Deltans through fair implementation of the M.O.R.E agenda of his administration.

We recall that when Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was sworn in on the 29th of May, 2023, he promised to be a governor for all Deltans, vowing not to be sectional in his political appointments and allocation of projects to the different ethnic Nationalities which make up the State.

Shortly after his swearing-in, the Governor acted true to his promise by making his first set of appointments truly pan Deltan. He appointed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu from Delta North, his Chief of Staff, Hon Johnson Erijo from Delta South and his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo from Delta Central.
For balancing, the Governor also worked behind the scene to ensure the Speakership of the Delta State House of Assembly went to Ijaw through Rt. Hon Emomotimi Guwor.
Other subsequent appointments have followed the same pattern to enthrone equity, fair play and Justice.

The Eight month old Oborevwori administration has been marked by unprecedented peace in the state. Every segment of society has been carried along. Also, following the tradition set by his immediate predecessor in office, Governor Oborevwori has given the non-indigenes Community in the State several political appointments for inclusiveness.

Added to that the State civil workforce have fared well under the Oborevwori’s administration.

The Governor has put a smile on the faces of civil servants by approving promotion arrears to deserving beneficiaries while also ensuring that Local Government pensioners and retired teachers are paid the backlog of their pension entitlements.

On projects, Governor Oborevwori has also shown fairness in distribution of projects across the three Senatorial districts of the state. Within his 100 days in office, the Governor commissioned several projects in Delta North especially, thereby proving critics wrong that an Oborevwori administration will be unfair to Delta North. In Delta Central as well as in Delta South several projects were also commissioned while also awarding new ones.

In the meantime, the Governor has kept his promise to restore the old glory of Warri as the commercial nerve centre of the State.

The Governor has awarded contracts to Julius Berger, the construction giant, for the construction of three flyover bridges, a cloverleaf exchange, pedestrian bridges and the expansion of some roads in Warri at an ambitious cost of 78 Billion naira. Many well placed Deltans have hailed the decision to transform Warri through these bridges, acknowledging it would put an end to the terrible gridlock which almost paralyzed business in the oil city and environs.
As a corollary, one must acknowledge the Oborevwori administration’s magnanimity in approving several hectares of land for the Nigerian Navy in Escravos to aid their operations in the area. This gesture will no doubt curb piracy, oil bunkering and naturally help to protect National assets in the area.

The Oborevwori administration has kept to its promise of involving youths in his administration. In constituting the State Executive Council, Governor Oborevwori appointed youths of about 40 years and below into his cabinet, which analysts put at about 30% of his entire Executive Council.

Governor Oborevwori has also kept to his promise so far about running his government under strict budgetary control. The Government has been very prudent in spending as the Governor has promised to run government without borrowing.

The 2024 budget, being Oborevwori’s first appropriation bill looks a very realistic budget with N397billion or 56% for Capital expenditure and N516 Billion or 44% for recurrent expenditure.
