Cybercrime: Dont Say What You Can’t Defend, Police Warns Nigerians

The Nigeria Police Force has warned Nigerians who post on the social media fake news and things they cannot defend to desist from such.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), reacting to a post on X, said that many “talk carelessly and sarcastically on social media.”

Adding: “Dont say what you can’t defend. It could be criminal. Remember, we have the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015. Be warned.”

Also, responding to another X user that said they await some persons used as scape goat, he wrote: “We are out for them. We will get them one by one, and we won’t care whose ox is gored.”

Continuing, he wrote: “Cyberstalking, cyberbullying, fake news, or misinformation are all offences and punishable under the law in Nigeria.”
