Agberen Appeals To DTSG, Others To Help Clear Medical Bill Of Accident Victim Held In Central Hospital Warri

“No Justice, No Peace Initiative,” has appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to assist one Mrs. Gladys Ebiko, a victim of a car accident, which occurred October, 2023 at Ubogo/Ugbisi town in Udu Local Government Area.

According to a statement made available to media houses on Saturday, “Mrs. Gladys Ebiko boarded a tricycle(Keke) carrying 3 passengers when a car ran into the tricycle.”

Adding: “A passenger died immediately, while others sustained serious wounds, with a mentally derailed man, who was on that spot when the äccidënt occurred but the case of Mrs. Gladys Ebiko was different.”

Continuing, he said the victim who was 8 months pregnant at the time of the incident, after waiting for 8 years, lost the baby in her womb, while she broke two major parts on her left leg.”

He continued: “Mrs. Gladys Ebiko had gone through several surgical procedures in a private hospital in Warri, upon which, the first was to remove the dead child from her womb, coupled with the broken bones on two separate parts on her left leg, before she was later referred to Central Hospital Warri.”

“She has been on admission in the Women Surgical Ward, Bed 3 for 5 months and some weeks and now she is due to be discharged, which the doctor had certified but she cannot leave the hospital, until the bills are paid, which amount to a total sum of N502,900 as at on the 29th day of April, 2024.”

Furthermore, he said they were able to raise the sum of N250,000 to assist her medical bills, sayimg he has met with the Hospital Management, with an official letter before meeting with the medical director on two occasions, who had told us of his limits, as the institution is Governmental, hence, directive must come from the State Government.

He said further: “In another twist, the driver of the car who ran into the tricycle(keke) attempted suicide, after he had sold all his property, first, to compensate the family who had lost a member of their family to the accident, treated and paid the hospital bills of the tricycle rider, fixed the tricycle, funny enough, also compensated and treated the mentally unstable man whom, also broke his hand. He narrated to us, how he had spent a whooping amount to the tune of N1, 800. 000.00 on the surgeries carried on Mrs. Gladys Ebiko, amounting to a total sum of N3, 902, 000 he spent so far on other accident victims. Hence, he could not meet up the bills at the Central Hospital Warri, as he is being pressured and has lost total control of himself.

“It was the failed suicide attempt by Mr. Harrison(car driver), which prompted a serving Senior Police Officer, to call my attention into the ordeal.”

“Furthermore, I am appealing to the Delta State Government, through her State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sherrif Oborevwori, NGO’s, philanthropists and well meaning Nigerians, to come to the aid of Mrs. Gladys Ebiko, providing support to clear the bills, as she also needs psychological assistance, knowing full well that she had lost her baby, after 8 years of waiting,” he concluded.
