Jigawa State Govt. Dissolves Local Council Chairmen, Appoints Caretakers

The Jigawa State Government has dissolved the elected council chairmen of the 27 local governments in the state, as their term expired on Friday.
According to Najib Umar, spokesman for the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, the chairmen are directed to hand over to the Directors of Administration and General Services of their respective local governments on June 28, 2024.

The statement also mentioned that all appointed officials, including secretaries, supervisory councillors, special advisers, and assistants, are relieved of their duties.
Additionally, the Jigawa State House of Assembly has amended the local government law, extending the period for fresh local council elections by one year and ordering the appointment of caretakers until the elections are held.
