The Nigeria Football Federation says it is not aware of Super Eagles coach Finidi George’s resignation.
Reports filtered in on Saturday morning that the 53-year-old former Ajax winger resigned as head of the nation’s senior football team.
His resignation comes barely two months since he was appointed.
This development follows the NFF’s announcement that they plan to appoint an “expatriate technical adviser” for the Super Eagles, due to their disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
Their poor performance has put their World Cup qualification hopes at risk, leading to criticism from Nigerian football fans who are still disheartened by the team’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Reports suggest that George is frustrated with the NFF leadership’s meeting with the sports minister, which did not address issues such as the late arrival of players at camp and the lack of support for the team in their match against Benin Republic.
Reacting, NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau said that he has not been informed of George’s resignation.
“Not yet aware,” he replied to a WhatsApp message.
