The supposed fun-filled week in Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, being the institution’s Students’ Week, on Wednesday was marred when a fight broke out between the President of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Mathias Jimson and a departmental president.
According to sources, against laid down rules, the Department of Accounting, organized a welcome party for fresh students.
This did not go down well with the SUG president who upon arrival at the event ordered the organisers to end the programme , saying that there ought not to be any other school event alongside the ongoing student week.
The party was disrupted as the SUG president was alleged to have attacked one of the esteemed guests with a knife.
The students present did not take this uncalled for act likely and there was total chaos.
Oasis Magazine was told that the attacked guest had to be attended to medically as he bled profusely.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Andy Egwunyenga has ordered an investigation into what caused the violence and disorderly conduct at the movie night of the Students’ Union Week.
An official bulletin released by the institution said “the University Administration received with sadness and strong disapproval the report of violence and disorderly conduct involving some students and Student Union officials at the Pre-Degree Hall and other parts of the university between 6:39pm and 7:30pm on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024.”
Adding: “This is utterly unacceptable and highly condemnable. It is a breach of the extant regulations of the University Governing the Conduct of Students.”
According to the statement, “after a review of the report, a committee has been constituted to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incident. All those found culpable after due investigation shall be dealt with in accordance with extant University Regulations.”
“In the meantime, the Vice- Chancellor has approved that, the remaining events of the Students ‘ Week continue peacefully while awaiting the report of the committee. All students are therefore urged to conduct themselves properly pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement concluded.
Attempts to speak with Comrade Jimson proved abortive at the time of filing this report, as our text messages and calls to his number did not yield any result.
