Scores of customers besieged MTN offices in Otovwodo ( Agbassa) Community by Warri/Sapele Road and Alaka Quarters by Effurun/ Sapele Road over complains of their barred sim cards.

One of the affected customers, Dr. Dickson Oyovwi who is the Provost of College of Education, Warri told Oasis Magazine that his MTN started malfunctioning last weekend and that his MTN simcard was registered through due process and that it was also linked to his National Identification Number ( NIN).

He therefore wondered why his MTN was barred.

A Warri based public analyst, Chief Akpojotor Adjarho who is also a victim of MTN’s action, spoke in the same vein, as he stated that he has been using MTN simcard right from inception.

Another affected MTN customer in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area who declined disclosing her identification stated that she registered her sim card in MTN office in Effurun where she said that her MTN sim card was also linked to her NIN.

“I see no reason why my sim card should be barred by MTN,” she added.

A young man who gave his name as Alex ( surname witheld) at the MTN office in Effurun alleged that the barring of MTN sim cards was aimed at opposing the planned national wide strike, as he accused MTN of acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the matter.

However, a staff of MTN in Otovwodo ( Agbassa) Community by Warri / Sapele Road who did not want his name mentioned in the media, explained that the affected sim cards were barred due to discrepancies in their registration and non linkage to NIN of their owners.

He said that the affected customers will have to ratify the discrepancies before their lines will be opened.
