HARDSHIP: Delta Youths Want NASS Prevail On Tinubu On Economic Policies Reversal

…Urges Youths To Sustain Peace, Commends Gov Oborevwori’s Achievements

The President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the leadership of NASS has been called upon to prevail on President Bola Tinubu to reverse government policy on foreign exchange, as part of measures to reduce inflation and hardship in the country.

The call was contained in a statement by a youth pressure group, Delta Youth Peace and Development Initiative, DYPDI) on Wednesday in Asaba, and signed by Delta North Coordinator, Comrade Friday Odabi, Delta Central Coordinator, Comrade Malcolm Tagbarha and Delta South Coordinator, Comrade Christian Otuwho.

The group also appealed to youths in Delta State not to participate in the Hardship National Protest scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10th, saying that protest will not solve the problem of hunger, but rather, it would cause further hardship as hoodlums and criminals are warming up to hijack the protest to loot shops and destroy property in the state.

DYPDI urged Delta Youths to sustain peace in their various communities, towns and villages, saying that despite the economic hardship in the country, the state Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has performed creditably well through prudent management of the state resources.

According to the leadership of DYPDI, the current hardship in the country is traced to the federal government anti people policies, which is now ravaging the foreign exchange market, and subsequently gave rise to devaluation of the Naira.

The youth organisation further noted that removal of fuel subsidy upscaled cost of transportation and food items in Nigeria, and that the federal government must of a necessity partner with Dangote Refinery for local production and distribution of petroleum products so as to crash the price of fuel per litre.

DYPDI appealed to the leadership of the National Assembly, elder statesmen and past presidents of Nigeria, to prevail on President Tinubu to urgently reverse these harsh policies, repair Warri, Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries.

“Delta Youth for Peace and Development, DYPDI, does not believe that protest is the solution to the present economic hardship in Nigeria.

The problem arose due to anti people economic policies of the federal government. We are calling on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the leadership of the National Assembly to prevail on President Tinubu to reverse these harsh policies.

“There is unprecedented poverty and Hardship in the country, but protest is not the solution. We don’t want any form of protest in Delta State, because it will eventually end in sorry, pains and tears as hoodlums and criminals will hijack the protest and the result will be disastrous.

“We are appealing to Delta Youths not to participate in the Hardship protest. Our amiable governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is doing extremely well, and we appreciate his good governance within the past one year and two months.

“The infrastructure and socioeconomic development in Delta State is remarkable, and it is only a peaceful environment that would bring about more development in the state,” DYPDI added.
