Police Arrest Three Suspects For Gold Theft in Abuja

Police arrested 3 individuals in connection with a house-breaking and gold theft operation in Abuja.

During a media briefing in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the arrests followed an investigation by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Adejobi revealed that the primary suspect was a fish trader at the Kado fish market in Abuja. The suspects allegedly broke into three houses in the Lugbe area before targeting a fourth, where they used a motor jack to widen the bars of a burglary-proof barrier to gain entry.

Once inside, they found a safe containing money, documents, and gold. Using a hammer and chisel, they forcibly opened the safe and contacted a buyer, ultimately netting over N60 million from the stolen items.

In a related development, Adejobi reported that IRT operatives had arrested 16 suspects linked to the theft and robbery of motorcycles and tricycles in Plateau. These individuals were known for roaming late at night, stealing unattended tricycles, and posing as police officers with fake ID cards to confiscate motorcycles.

The suspects had stolen several motorcycles, which they sold to other members of their syndicate. Police have so far recovered eight motorcycles and 11 tricycles.

In the past six weeks, police operatives have arrested a total of 1,284 suspects for various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, homicide, and cultism. Among these arrests, 307 were for armed robbery, 296 for kidnapping, 301 for homicide, 176 for rape and defilement, and 204 for cult-related offenses.

Additionally, police recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles. During this period, 97 kidnapping victims were rescued.
