By Efecha Gold
At the 4th Edition of the Journalists Hangout, themed ‘Parley to Party’ and hosted by the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, introduced a revolutionary 2.5 kVA generator. This cutting-edge generator, which has been rigorously tested, operates quietly for up to 21 hours and incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) control for user convenience.
Professor Ufuophu-Biri highlighted that this generator presents a novel alternative to traditional power sources such as biofuel, solar, or hydro. Details of the technology are being kept confidential until it is officially patented.
The generator has attracted interest from prospective buyers both domestically and internationally. Professor Ufuophu-Biri noted that the project, generously funded and managed by a team led by the Dean of Engineering at Oghara Polytechnic, has shown encouraging results. In a recent two-hour test, the generator ran nearly silently, with ongoing efforts to further minimize noise.

The Polytechnic plans to showcase the invention to the state Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as a state innovation and seek support and funding from key government ministries, including Science and Technology, Trade and Investment, and Justice.
Professor Ufuophu-Biri attributed the project’s inception to his experience in a U.S. Government program in 2009, where he explored alternative energy sources.
He expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from the state government, which has been crucial in advancing this groundbreaking initiative.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Dr. Emmanuel Akpoveta, Dean of ICT at Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-uku; Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker; and Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ. This unveiling signifies a major step forward in alternative energy solutions, marking the beginning of a new era in sustainable power generation.
