See Update On Consumer Credit Scheme
The consumer credit scheme is another frontline policy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that seeks to improve the standard of living of Nigerians by providing easy access to credit for everyone regardless of societal class
The scheme will help Nigerians to facilitate vital investments like housing, transportation, education, and healthcare, crucial for sustaining stability and pursuing personal aspirations without pressure of paying lump sums.
CREDICORP is the institution charged with the responsibility of providing a guarantee on credits by curating reliable data for credit providers.
151 financial institutions have already signed up to be a part of the landmark scheme.
These include commercial banks, fintechs, and microfinance banks.
These institutions have already completed their expression of interest form and will be on standby to kick off the program soon.
CREDICORP is working with National Identity Management Corporation(NIMC) to build credit scored for all Nigerians, which will feature on the soon-to-be-released National ID cards.
Already, over 1.6 million people have expressed interest in the scheme, which will kickoff with civil servants while the general public will be co-opted in 2025.
