City Child School Emerges Winner Of State Final For NILDS Quiz Competition

…To Represent Delta In Zonal Level In Port-Hacourt

City Child School, Ekpan from the Delta Central Senatorial District has emerged winner of the State finals of the quiz competition organized in Asaba by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and would represent Delta State at the zonal stage of the competition scheduled to hold in Port-Hacourt , the Rivers State Capital on October 31.

The school came first after beating their closest contestant, Nshiagu College,  Ogwuashi-Uku with 55 points while Nshiagu College emerged second with 50 points after the final round, leaving Mable Hill International School, Okpanam in the third position .

Two other schools, Jeddo Secondary School, Jeddo and Standard International School, Warri failed to progress to the final round.

Declaring the competition open , the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro said that the competition was organized with the aim of acquitting secondary school students with the intricacies of legislative procedures.

Ezewu stated that the competition was very important as it would offer the students the exposure to political issues, thereby preparing them for future political leadership positions in the country.

She urged the participants to see the opportunity provided as very rare one and should count themselves very lucky to have been selected to participate in that level where the State representative would emerge.

While admonishing the participants to put in their best in the competition, Ezewu lauded the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the approval to participate in the competition.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Schools, Lady Funmi Ighavbota told the participants that they should leverage the competition to sell themselves and be good ambassadors of their schools.

Ighavbota explained that in any competition, there must be winner, stressing that at the end of the exercise only one school would emerge victorious and represent the state at the zonal level.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator of NILDS, Mr. Victor Etim noted that objective of organizing the quiz competition was to provide continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of the students and youths on history, practice and procedure of the legislature and encourage deeper understanding of core democratic governance.

He said that the competition was an annual event for schools in the Federal Capital Territory since its inception in 2016 until the Governing Council of the Institute directed that the competition should be expanded to cover  all the states in Nigeria.

It could be recalled that two schools from each of the three Senatorial Districts were selected to compete in the state finals with College of Commerce, Warri absent in the competition.
