DELSU: PGSAN Inaugurates New Executive

The Postgraduate Students Association of Nigeria (PGSAN), Delta State University Chapter, has successfully inaugurated new executive members.

The swearing-in took place recently at the Postgraduate School Hall.

The event was graced by distinguished representatives from Delta State University Community.

In his welcome address,
Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada, highlighted the achievements of the Postgraduate School over the past months.

He reminded the new executive that their position is a call to service to DELSU and humanity, urging them to register their efforts in the sand of time.

He emphasized that the Postgraduate school is undergoing reforms such as the adoption of the core values of SERVICOM, provision of Zoom option for virtual defense, free internet access for registered Postgraduate students, proper housekeeping, campaign against corruption and extortion, as well as prompt result preparation.

In his words “We are not where we should be but we are going to get there…”.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor (now outgone), Professor Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga, who was represented by Prof Emmanuel Igho Odokuma, Provost College of Health Science, delivered in his opening remark, advised the new executive members to visit history to learn the positive impacts and mistakes of past administrations.

He admonished the new executive to see this opportunity as a means to shine and network instead of enriching themselves while encouraging them to go about their duties with the mindset that time is money.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of the new executive to the Vice-Chancellor by Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Ekene Obi-iyeke, Associate Dean, Postgraduate School

They include- Comr. Ohwovoriole Oviebemre (President-elect),
Comr. Rachael Efebeh-Adeleke (VicePresident-elect), Comr. Bigila Abednego (Secretary General-elect), Comr. Iloba Chukwebuka Isaac (Assistant Secretary General-elect), Comr. Oweikpodor Vera Gbaeprekumo (Financial Secretary-elect), Comr. Egheneji Oghenetejiri (Treasurerelect), Comr. Friday Faith Bariagarakara (Public Relations Officer-elect), Comr. Umeh Emmanuela Chinonye (Welfare-elect).

The University Registrar, Mrs. Rufina U. Ufiofio represented by Mr. Emmanuel Eghenegi, Senior Deputy Registrar of Postgraduate School, Delta State University, administered the oath of allegiance to the newly elected PGSAN Officials.

The newly elected PGSAN President, Comr. Ohwovoriole Oviebemre, in his acceptance speech, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor of the University for the honor as he was elected for a second tenure.

He emphasized that the responsibility of PGSAN executive is to represent the members and association.

In his inaugural address, Comr. Ohwovoriole Oviebemre thanked the Vice-Chancellor of the University for his continuous support of the Postgraduate School and students.

Also, He humbly asked the Vice-Chancellor to consider the students’ request proceeding from the previous administration to allow them to join the teaching and non-teaching staff, praising his impact.

He further appreciated the Postgraduate School led by the Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada for the adoption of the SERVICOM initiative to ensure that the students are served right.

Comr. Ohwovoriole Oviebemre emphasized the importance of unity, innovation and working closely with the University Administration to address the needs of postgraduate students.

Comr. Oviebemre acknowledged the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, for his leadership and interest in the affairs of the public.

He appealed to the Governor of Delta State to use his good office to approve research grants for postgraduate students as research is the bedrock of development and a sustainable society.

The newly elected financial secretary of the Postgraduate Student Association, Comr. Oweikpodor Vera Gbaeprekumo gave a vote of thanks, appreciating the University officials for creating time out of their busy schedule to attend the ceremony, making the event important, and honoring the association.

The event concluded with a reception where attendees, including postgraduate students, various heads of departments and University officials, networked and shared their aspirations for the future of the association.
